Domel belongs to a class of medications called dopamine antagonists that are used to cure nausea and vomiting. It is also helpful in the treatment of indigestion. It is not an antibiotic it’s an antiemetic. It has active ingredients named dextromethorphan and guaifenesin. This medication is recommended for short-term use.
The medicine is available in the form of Domel Suspension (60 ml formula) & Domel tablet (10 mg).
Uses:
The suspension is used for nausea and vomiting whereas the tablet is also used for the treatment of indigestion. Domel syrup is used for the treatment of nausea, vomiting, and in the case of indigestion also. It works by reducing bloating and relieving gastric discomfort by making the food move through the stomach. It increases gastrointestinal movements which however makes the patient feel relaxed. Domperidone is suggested for the relaxation of the symptoms of nausea and vomiting. The medication should be used for the shortest period necessary to control nausea and vomiting. The medicine blocks the activity of a chemical present in the brain that causes vomiting and nausea.
COMPOSITION:
Domel syrup contains Domperidone as an active ingredient that belongs to the gasrtoprokinetic group of drugs. Domperidone is a dopamine receptor antagonist used as a peristaltic stimulant and an anti-emetic agent for indigestion, epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting. Domperidone can help improve the power of the digestive system and promote gastric emptying. It is prokinetic that’s why it works in that area of the brain which controls vomiting. It also works upon the upper digestive tract to increase the movement of the stomach and intestines which allows the food to move more easily through the stomach.
HOW TO TAKE:
Shake well before use. Use a measuring cup, spoon, or dropper for the right quantity. Take medicine leaky via the mouth. Follow the recommendations given by the doctor for taking the medicine with or without a meal. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage.
DOSAGE:
The dosage is taken before the meal otherwise the working of Domel is delayed if it’s taken after a meal. Better to take it 15-30 mins before the meal.
For Children and Adults (Above 12 years): Take 2 tablespoons thrice a day Recommended:10mg thrice a day. Maximum dosage:30 mg per day.

OVERDOSAGE:
If you are experiencing an overdose of Domel syrup, the treatment according to the symptoms should be given immediately. Electrocardiography monitoring (ECG) should be performed because of the abnormal heartbeat. And in this case, supportive therapy should be recommended. Anticholinergics and antiparkinson drugs may be used to control drug-induced movement disorders.
SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSE:
If you overdose on the medication that could lead to a dangerous amount of medicine in your body and that is so harmful. Symptoms of overdose include: Drowsiness. Convulsions. Agitations. Altered Consciousness. Disorientation. Drug-Induced movement disorders.
MISSED DOSAGE:
If you missed a dose then it should be taken with food as soon as you remember it. Avoid taking double doses to fill the missed one.

IN CHILDREN:
- Abnormal posture.
- Convulsion.

- Breast pain.
- Breast tenderness.
- Diarrhea.
- Loss of libido.

- Pruritus.
- Rash.
- Somnolence.
- Urticaria.
SEVERE SIDE EFFECTS:
- QTc prolongation.
- Torsade de pointes.
- Convulsions.
- Extrapyramidal disorder.
- Sudden cardiac death.
- Ventricular arrhythmias.
- Anaphylactic shock.
- Irregular heartbeat.
- Sudden loss of heart functioning (sudden cardiac death).
If any of the following worsen or last for a long time, you should consult your doctor immediately.
PRECAUTIONS:
Before using Domel, tell your doctor your medical history including abdominal functioning of the liver, electrolyte disturbances, heart disease, hormone-releasing pituitary tumor, and stomach or intestinal bleeding.
PREGNANCY & BREASTFEEDING:
Domel Syrup is not usually prescribed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. But in some cases, Domperidone is used to increase the milk supply. However, it should only be used in breastfeeding if your physician finds it necessary. This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnancy unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. The effect of this medicine on the fetus is not established and hence you are advised to consult a doctor before taking this medicine.
HYPERTENSION:
Patients allergic to Domperidone or any other ingredients in Domel are not recommended to use.
ALCOHOL:
Do not consume alcohol while taking this medicine.
PROLONGED USE:
Prolonged use is not suggested as it can cause severe cardiac side effects and irregular heartbeat.
